Listening

posted 2 months ago by San

I work with a director relatively often who will ask questions about subjects that were just answered. I'm unclear why listening feels unimportant based on rank.

Did you ever try speaking with this manager and experess how you were feeling during the meeting? It could be something that the manager is unaware

I would have thought that calling them out in meetings would be enough. But you're right I should probably have a direct conversation with the person.

Yes, I'm a firm believer that you should always document first and then have a conversation with that person about it

I experienced this as well with the last organization I was at. This caused me to not want to be interactive in executive meetings or provide feedback.

I always have found that taking proper meeting notes and relaying them at the end of the meeting does a good job of avoiding this problem post meeting. But if this continues happening in a meeting, maybe consider having a broader talk with the whole team about the benefits of staying on task during a session. That would avoid directly having a confrontation and put you in good standing with the entire team.
